No artist will ever match the P-Funk experience of the 70s. Parliament, led by George Clinton, was the uncut funk – hip-shaking grooves, ear-splitting guitars, classical keyboards, jazzy horns, massed choral vocals and high concept lyrics. 1974 s Up For The Down Stroke marks the transition from funk to P-Funk. After losing the Parliament name in the late 60s, Clinton regained it and signed with Neil Bogart s Casablanca label in 74. Boasting a nice and funky stripped down sound and a taste of the bass-driven groove that would dominate the P-Funk dynamic the remainder of the 70s, Bootsy Collins is joined here by Eddie Hazel, Bernie Worrell and the other usual suspects on a set that includes the monster title cut plus other funky fare like The Goose, Testify, Presence Of A Brain and All Your Goodies Are Gone.  180g vinyl LP reissue from Mercury Records.
