MGK released his first mixtape, Stamp of Approval, in 2006 and built a Cleveland fan base. But it was a trip to New York s legendary Apollo Theater in 2009 that would gain him wide notice. He became the first rapper in history to win the Apollo talent show. In 2011, he secured a record deal with Interscope Records through Combs Bad Boy Entertainment imprint. With the release of Lace Up, MGK set himself apart from the pack as his seamlessly blend of hip-hop and rock echoed both his punk and rap influences.
