Solar Village Turn-key Homes

HVAC-system

A Solar Village Home brings you one of the most efficient, healthy, and comfortable Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system ever offered in a mainstream home.    The system consists of a central air handler, ultra-efficient heat pump, tank less gas water heater, and a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) system.

A description of each component and how it performs follows:

High velocity air handler

Central air handler:

This system delivers the cool or heated air to the space through sealed ducts in each room.  The air outlets quickly bring the room up to the set temperature on the digital thermostat.   The digital thermostat allows the temperature of the rooms to be quickly adjusted up or down depending on the time of day to maximize the efficiency of the system.

Heat pump - outside unit

Heat pump:

This outdoor based system (about the size of normal air condition condenser) provides the cooling and heating to the central air handler via coils in the air handler.  A heat pump is one of the most efficient ways there is to heat and cool a space and have been in use for over 50 years.  Their only down side is they lose effectiveness when outside temperatures drop below 35 degrees requiring a back up system as described below.

Tankless gas water heater:

Tankless boiler

For areas that go into a deep freeze for more than a week in the winter, a heat pump requires a back up heating system for when it gets colder than 35 degrees.  A Solar Village Home will use this tank less high efficiency gas water heater to heat water to 125+ degrees and feed hot water coils installed in the air handler for proper distribution into the home.  Because this water heater is tank less there is no hot water just sitting in a tank waiting to be used, this water heater works on demand and only comes on when needed,  providing the most efficient way to provide hot water for space heating and domestic hot water (for our base spec).  It will also provide an endless amount of hot water for showers and other uses in the home.

Heat recovery ventilation (HRV) system:

For healthy indoor air, this HRV system provides continuous ventilation
24 hours a day.  Read more on the healthy indoor air page.

Other HVAC system options:

A Solar Village Home can have other HVAC system options that vary by region.  For example, to lower the price of a Solar Village Home a high efficiency (92%+) gas furnace can be chosen.   For clients whose budgets are more flexible, an all electric geothermal system (giving the option for a true Zero Energy Home by upgrading the amount of Solar PV) can be used and in cold climates a solar hot water based radiant floor heating system can be installed (both of these would be installed onsite).   Call us to discuss the HVAC system options for your area at 303-247-9400.

The combination of all these system makes a Solar Village Home one of the most efficient and comfortable homes on the market.
